COURSE DESCRIPTION
Biology is the science of life and as such, many of its basic ideas are experienced each day of the student’s life. We will begin the study of biology by examining scientific method, classification of life, cell structure and function, genetics, evolution and how all of these interact in the study of the earth’s ecological systems.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
- ability to understand and articulate the understanding of basic biological ideas
and their historical development;
- ability to understand the scientific method of inquiry;
- ability to properly use the scientific method to solve problems;
- ability to use inquiry as a means of examining problems;
- ability to utilize and devise experiments to test explanations;
- ability to relate the biological ideas to the technical society of today;
- ability to understand the interrelationship of biology to other disciplines;
- ability to understand how present and future developments of science will affect
your lifestyles and moral responsibilities;
- development of concern for all life and the ability to act as a concerned and
informed citizen;
- give the student a strong basis for future studies in the natural sciences
